The University was established on November 17, 1804 due to the Order of the Emperor Aleksander I under the name Kharkiv Empire University. University has been changing its name for many decades due to the power in state. In accordance with the decree of the president of Ukraine No. 1194/2010 dated December 24, 2010 and the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 2213-p dated December08, 2010, Yaroslav the Wise National Law Academy of Ukraine was renamed into the National University “Yaroslav the Wise Law Academy of Ukraine”. In addition, on December 4, 2013 according to the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 1697 the educational establishment was renamed to Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University.

The University has considerable scientific and educational potential. Teaching, research and educational activities provide 38 department, employing more than 700 teachers. Among them, there are more than 100 doctors, professors and more than 500 Ph.D., associate professors; 1 Hero of Ukraine, 1 academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; 14 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; 17 members of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; 18 honored workers of science and technology; 11 State Prize winners, 1 Honored Artist of Ukraine; 11 Honored Workers of Education of Ukraine; 15 Honored Lawyers of Ukraine; 1 Honored Lawyer of Russia; 1 Honored Builder of Ukraine; 10 distinguished professors – Elders National Law University after Yaroslav the Wise; 5 Honored Worker of Ukraine; 3 People’s Artists of Ukraine; 5 Honored Artists of Ukraine.

Currently there are nearly 14 thousands studying at the university.

Університет має значний науково-педагогічний потенціал. Викладання, науково-дослідницьку та виховну роботу забезпечують 38 кафедри, де працюють понад 700 викладачів. Academy of Advocacy of Ukraine was established on October 12, 1995. The Academy is a higher educational establishment providing training bachelors and masters in such specialties as “International Law”, “Law” and “Translation”.

The Academy has the following departments:

  • Special professional training – training which complements basic university education. This program is designed for 5 years and works at the bar associations and courts, where lawyers and judges conducting classes with students by practical application of acquired theoretical knowledge.
  • General legal training – preparation of legal specialists in the field of “Jurisprudence” at the level of bachelor and master. Students pass an annual traineeship in state and local authorities, in prosecutor’s office and courts.
  • International law – provides training of specialists in international law at the level of bachelor and master.
  • Translation – prepare translators and interpreters in the field of jurisprudence. Students may learn one of several proposed foreign languages.
  • Distance education department – students obtain prescriptive plan for lectures and self-study. Then twice a year students take the examination session.

Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established in 1995 on the basis of the Institute of State and Law of V. M. Koretskyi of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The University is one of the leading educational establishment of Ukraine and the only state educational establishment, which is subordinate to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

It provides training in the following areas: “Jurisprudence” and “International Law”.

The Academy provides educational services for training and qualification of Bachelor degree in the direction of “Jurisprudence” and “Psychology”.

National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” is a higher educational and research autonomous establishment that was established in 1615 on the basis of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

According to the results of CEDOS Analytical Center, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy took the first place in the ranking of transparency of Ukrainian universities for 2016. CEDOS experts have been providing a monitoring of 186 universities during months to learn what universities are the most transparent and open and take care of their applicants, students and teachers.

NaUKMA has nine academic buildings, network of libraries, information and computer center, publishing and printing center, cultural and artistic center. In addition, there are publishing houses “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” and the “Spirit and Letter”.

In 2005 NaUKMA signed the Magna Charter of universities on recognition and support of the fundamental principles of universities: university autonomy, indivisibility of teaching and research, freedom in research and training.

Faculty of Law at NaUKMA prepares specialists on levels of bachelor and master. In addition, the Faculty offers Master program in public administration. After graduation, students may continue their education in post-graduate school.

The faculty uses modern teaching methods. Many university lecturers were trained abroad in leading universities in the US, Canada, UK and Germany.

Studying at the Faculty allows students to choose subjects for study that complement mandatory disciplines. The university in general and the faculty in particular developed the conditions for in-depth learning of English by implementation of English Certificated programs. Many elective courses are taught in English and many of them are unique, for example: The judicial lawmaking, International Commercial Arbitration, The rights of citizens of other countries in the EU, Application of legal precedent, Negotiation and Mediation, International Business Transaction, Anthropological Examination of National Legislation of Ukraine, Tort Liability in Civil Law, Tax Procedure and Tax Administration, Protection in Criminal Cases and many others.

National University “Odessa Academy of Law” is a leading institution of higher education in the field of legal education and science in Ukraine, since 1998 –it is a member of the Association of European Universities.

The main strategic objective of the National University “Odessa Academy of Law” is to ensure the quality of training at international standards.

Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is higher educational establishment with research direction, which is deemed the leading modern scientific and educational center of Ukraine.

The university was established in 1834 and was known as the Imperial University of St. Vladimir and in 1994 it was received its current name.

Kyiv University maintains extensive international links with universities around the world. Today the University has bilateral partnership agreements with 227 foreign educational and scientific institutions from 57 countries. For the research work, conferences, lectures University visited annually by about 180 foreign scientists and teachers from 32 countries. Every year more than 1,375 teachers, researchers and students travel to foreign trips to 59 countries. Two-thirds of business travelers in 2014 traveled abroad with scientific purpose (participation in conferences, trainings, researches).

The University takes an active position to increase recruitment to training of foreign citizens. The number of foreign nationals, who acquire higher education at the university, is 935 people. The growth of foreign students contributed to the introduction of Russian and English training programs.

Lviv University was founded on January 20, 1661 as the University of Lviv. Almost until the end of the nineteenth century, there were three departments: Law, Philosophical and Theological, and later, from 1894 other faculties began to open. By the Order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet on January 8, the State University was named after the famous Ukrainian writer and thinker Ivan Franko. Today Ivan Franko Lviv State University occupies the fifth position among Ukrainian universities and is included in the “Top 200 Ukraine” the rating of best educational establishments of Ukraine. 2036 scientific and pedagogical employees, including 220 doctors of science, provide educational process in 2015 at Lviv University. The university has 134 department, at the end of 2014 postgraduate students numbered 773 people, including 341 students of past-time education. At the end of 2015 at Lviv University studied more than 20 000 students, including part-time – 4233, in colleges – 1339.

Ivan Franko Lviv State University adequately represents Ukrainian academic community in the world. In 2000, the university became a co-founded of the European College of Polish and Ukrainian Universities (Lublin, Poland). Extended contracts with Belsky State University (Balti, Moldova) and Cracow Pedagogical Academy (Poland). Many graduates continue their education in higher educational institutions of the USA, Poland, Germany, Austria, Great Britain and France.

Chernivtsi National University was founded on October 4, 1875 by decree Franz Josef, Emperor of Austro-Hungary and it comprised three faculties: Theological, Philosophical and Legal. In 1989 Chernivtsi University was named after Ukrainian writer of Bukovina, herald of Ukrainian national revival, Yuriy Fedkovych.

Donetsk National University is a classical university in students obtain bachelor or master degree in 53 majors, graduate students in 63 directions and doctors at 23.

Donetsk University is a member of the European University Association and member of many European scientific and educational programs in line TEMPUS.

The university consists of 9 faculties: mathematics and information technology, physics and engineering, chemistry, biology, philology, foreign languages, history, economics, law.
